Permission requirements

• Vault Files and Directories
  • View their files and files shared with them (needed to download)
  • View the history of their files (sharing, project tags, deletion)
  • Get the keys of their files and files shared with them (needed to download)
  • Download the content of files they can access
  • Create files (needed to upload)
  • View their directories and their groups' directories
  • View any user's Vault storage use

Download Files and Directories to the Local Machine

Method One

1. Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
2. Click the My Files section on the left panel.
3. Select the file(s) or directory(ies) you want to download.
4. Click Download in the top center panel.
5. In the prompt, preview the file and directory structure.
6. Select the destination of your download.
7. Click Download.

note

Downloads occur in the current session of the user's browser.

Downloaded files are no longer protected by tiCrypt encryption. Store them securely.

Method Two

1. Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
2. In the left panel, click the Transfer files between My Vault and My Computer button next to My Computer.
3. In the new window, select the vault files in the left panel to download.
4. Drag and drop the files into the local machine's access directory in the right panel.
5. In the prompt, preview the file and directory structure.
6. Click Download.

You can also right-click the files or directories in File Transfer Hub and select Download.

Downloading files removes tiCrypt encryption and protections. Ensure file security is your responsibility.

Ensure Safety of Files

Ask your admin for guidance on where to store the files and directories locally.

Download Writer Denied Access

Failed to download file /file-name.file-format: downloadFile: Could not open download writer: downloadFile: failed to open destination file file-download-path.

Ask Your Admin for Download Access

Ask your admin to change your access level to the file and allow you to download the file locally.

Download Files Through the Browser

Download via Browser saves Vault files with your web browser instead of tiCrypt Connect. It is offered only when you use tiCrypt in a web browser.

1. Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
2. Select the file(s) or directory(ies) you want to download.
3. Click the Open full menu button in the top center panel.
4. Select Download via Browser.
5. In the prompt, review the files and the notice.
6. Click Download.

The prompt is titled "Download name (size) to your computer?" for one file, or "Download n files (totaling size) to your computer?" for several, and warns "Downloading files removes tiCrypt encryption and protections. Ensure file security is your responsibility."

• Folders are flattened: browsers cannot create folders on your computer, so the files inside the selected folders are saved without their folder structure. The prompt explains this in a notice. Use Download through tiCrypt Connect to keep the structure.
• One file at a time: the browser saves the files one after another, each to its usual download location.
• Skipped files: files from a project you are not active in are skipped with "you are not an active member of project", and files from a project that restricts your downloads with "you are restricted from downloading in project".
• Downloads section: every file saved this way is added to Downloads in the Vault.

You can also download through the browser by dragging files onto Downloads in the tree, which does not accept folders, or with the Download button that a file preview shows when the file type cannot be previewed. See View.

The owner of a shared file can set the Cannot download restriction on your share. tiCrypt then refuses every download of that file. See Share.

Download Shared Files and Directories to the Local Machine

1. Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
2. Click the Shared With Me or Shared By Me sections on the left panel.
3. Select the shared file(s) or directory(ies) you want to download.
4. Click Download in the top center panel.
5. In the prompt, preview the shared file and directory structure.
6. Select the destination of your download.
7. Click Download.

caution

Ensure you have download permissions from your admin. If the shared file or directory belongs to a group or project you lack access to, you cannot download it.

Failed to Create Directory- Denied Access

Choose a Different Download Path

Your local machine's default downloads are located in the Downloads folder. Choose a different download path or make a new directory in Downloads.

Failed to Create Directory- Existing File

Failed to create directory /directory-or-group-directory-name/ in destination: failed to create directory: mkdir directory-download-path: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

Cancel Download

You have already downloaded the same file locally. Avoid re-downloading copies of the file and search for the file locally.

View Downloaded Files and Directories

1. Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
2. Click the Downloads section on the left panel.
3. View all downloaded files and directories in the Vault.

• All download attempts are recorded in the audit logs.
• The Downloads section only lists files downloaded through the browser, with Download via Browser or by dragging files onto Downloads. Files downloaded with Download or transferred via the File Transfer Hub are not added to it.
