Delete Files
bulk-action
- Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
- Click the My Files section on the left panel.
- Select the file(s) you want to delete.
- Click the Open full menu button in the top center panel.
- Select Move to trash.
To delete a file, you can also right-click on it and select the Move to trash option from the context menu, or select it and press Backspace.
The snack reads "Moved 1 item to trash" for one item and "Moved n items to trash" for several. Move to trash is offered in My Files, in your folders, in group folders and in Downloads.
Move an inbox to the trash
Moving a folder that is an inbox to the trash asks first. The dialog is titled 'Move the inbox "name" to the trash?' and reads "Moving an inbox to the trash deletes all of its access points: their share links stop working, and the directory is removed from Inboxes. This cannot be undone." Click Move to trash to go ahead, or cancel to keep the inbox. Restoring the folder later does not bring its access points back. See Inboxes.
Delete Directories
bulk-action
- Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
- Click the My Files section on the left panel.
- Select the directory(ies) you want to delete.
- Click the Open full menu button in the top center panel.
- Select Move to trash.
View Deleted Files and Directories
- Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
- Click the Trash section on the left panel.
- View all deleted files and directories.
Restore Deleted Files and Directories
bulk-action
- Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
- Click the Trash section on the left panel.
- Select the file(s) or directory(ies) you want to restore.
- Click the Open full menu button in the top center panel.
- Click Restore to My Files.
Restored items return to the top level of My Files, not to the directory they were deleted from. If My Files already holds an item with the same name, the restored one is renamed, for example "report (1).pdf". Restoring needs the permission to move items between directories.
Permanently Delete Files and Directories
bulk-action
- Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
- Click the Trash section on the left panel.
- Select the file(s) or directory(ies) you want to delete permanently.
- Click the Open full menu button in the top center panel.
- Click Delete.
- In the prompt, click Delete items.
The prompt is titled "Delete n item(s) permanently from trash" and reads "The selected items will be permanently deleted." In Trash, pressing Backspace with items selected opens the same prompt.
Permanently deleted files and directories that you own are removed from the system and cannot be recovered. If the files or directories are shared with other users, those users lose access to them. Contact your admin before permanently deleting any file or directory.
Only items you own are destroyed. Items in your Trash that belong to someone else, such as files another user shared with you that you copied into your folders, are removed from your Trash, and the owner and the other people they are shared with keep them.
Permanently Empty Trash
bulk-action
- Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
- Click the Trash section on the left panel.
- Click the Empty trash button in the top center panel.
- In the prompt, click Permanently delete files.
Empty trash appears only at the top of Trash, when Trash holds items and you can remove items from directories. The prompt is titled "Empty trash?" and reads "n files and m directories will be permanently deleted." As with Delete, only items you own are destroyed.
Click Undo pending action on the taskbar box in the bottom right to cancel the action.
