Connect Application

The Connect Application is the desktop client for tiCrypt. It runs the tiCrypt front end either in its own embedded browser or, for debugging, in an external browser.

One installation can hold several front-end versions and several deployments. A deployment is one institution's tiCrypt system; a front-end version is the build of the tiCrypt interface served against it. This page covers managing both. To install the application in the first place, see Get Started.

tip

New features reach the Connect Application before the browser version. External SFTP support and the local filesystem bridge to the Vault are both Connect-only, so use it rather than a browser where you have the choice.

Add a Front-End Version

  1. Open the Connect Application.
  2. Click the Manage versions button in the top right (macOS) or left (Windows) corner.
  3. In the pop-up, click the Add version button in the top right.
  4. Click Upload .szip file.
  5. Select the version file and click Open.
info

You can paste a version link into the Paste a version URL field instead of uploading a file.

Switch Front-End Versions

  1. Open the Connect Application.
  2. Click the Manage versions button in the top right (macOS) or left (Windows) corner.
  3. Select the front-end version you want.
  4. Click outside the pop-up to exit.
note

Run the latest version, which is selected by default. Front-end versions update globally unless you override them here.

Delete a Front-End Version

  1. Open the Connect Application.
  2. Click the Manage versions button in the top right (macOS) or left (Windows) corner.
  3. Click the Delete button next to the version.
  4. Click outside the pop-up to exit.

Add a Deployment

  1. Open the Connect Application.
  2. Click the Add deployment button in the top right (macOS) or left (Windows) corner.
  3. Click Upload dep. file.
  4. Select the deployment file and click Open.
info

You can paste a deployment link into the Paste a deployment URL field instead of uploading a file.

Delete a Deployment

  1. Open the Connect Application.
  2. Click the Delete a deployment button in the top right (macOS) or left (Windows) corner.
  3. Click Yes.
caution

You must re-add a deployment to regain access to it. You can only delete a deployment when at least two exist.

Switch Between Deployments

  1. Open the Connect Application.
  2. Select the first deployment card.
  3. Click the Exit tiCrypt Edge button below.
  4. Select the second deployment card.

Deployment Files and Updates

Every version of the Connect Application uses the same database, so the same .dep file works for any new version. If the .dep file is already loaded, the Connect Application recognizes it automatically and you do not need to add it again after an update.

Check Which Versions You Are Running

Three separate version numbers matter, and the login page shows all three.

  1. Open the Connect Application.
  2. Select your deployment card.
  3. Next to the Key symbol, read:
PrefixComponent
f-Front end
b-Back end
c-Connect Application

Quote all three when reporting a problem. They move independently, and a fault often belongs to only one of them.
