Sign-In Notices

ResearcherRequires: User, Sub-admin, Admin, or Super-admin role

A sign-in notice is a message tiCrypt shows you as part of signing in, before you reach the Vault. There are four: a login message on the login page, a Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) acknowledgement, the terms of service, and a summary titled "Since you last logged in". Your administrator decides which of the first three your deployment shows; the summary appears on its own whenever something about your account has changed. A sign-in notice is not a notification. Notifications report what other users did and wait in the notifications panel; sign-in notices appear once, at sign-in, and some of them must be answered before you can continue.

Why sign-in notices exist

Some data comes with rules you must accept before you touch it. Institutions that hold CUI or other regulated data are expected to show users the handling rules and to record that each user agreed. The CUI acknowledgement and the terms of service do that inside tiCrypt, so the agreement is tied to your account rather than to a separate form. Declining either one logs you out, because access without agreement is exactly what these rules exist to prevent.

You are the first person to notice misuse of your account. The "Since you last logged in" summary lists failed sign-in attempts and changes to your role, permissions, projects, and certifications. If someone tried to sign in as you, or your access changed without your knowledge, this is where you see it.

Administrators need a way to reach everyone before sign-in. The login message is the one place every user looks, so administrators use it for maintenance windows and similar announcements.

When you see each notice

The notices appear in this order:

NoticeWhereWhen it appears
Login messageOn the login page, above the login tabsWhile your administrator has a message turned on and its expiration date has not passed
FOR USERS OF CUI dialogAfter you sign inAt every sign-in, if your administrator turned the dialog on
Terms of service dialogAfter the CUI dialogWhen the terms have changed since you last accepted them, or when the display interval your administrator chose has passed. The interval can be once, every year, every month, every day, or every time
Since you last logged in dialogAfter the terms of serviceOnly when there is at least one change to report

If your administrator turned on the CUI banner, every page also shows a banner reading "THIS SYSTEM CONTAINS CUI" at the top of the window.

Before you begin

  • You have your key file and its password, and you are on the login page of your deployment.

Respond to sign-in notices

  1. On the login page, read the login message if one is shown. Its icon and colour show its severity.
  2. Sign in as usual.
  3. If the FOR USERS OF CUI dialog appears, read it and click Accept to continue. Clicking Decline logs you out.
  4. If the terms of service dialog appears, read the terms. To keep a copy, click Download. Then click Accept to continue. Clicking Decline logs you out.
  5. If the Since you last logged in dialog appears, review each section, then click Accept.
Result:

You reach the Vault. tiCrypt records the date you accepted the terms of service, and your administrator can see it.

The CUI and terms of service dialogs cannot be dismissed. Pressing Esc or clicking outside the terms of service dialog shows "You must accept the terms of service" and leaves the dialog open.

Download saves the terms as a plain-text file named <deployment>_terms-of-service_MM-DD-YYYY.txt, dated the day you download it.

Read the "Since you last logged in" summary

The dialog's subtitle gives the time of your previous sign-in, for example "Last log in October 20, 2026 at 4:15PM". Below it, the dialog shows only the sections that have something to report.

The following table describes the sections of the dialog.

SectionWhat it lists
Failed loginsEach failed attempt to sign in to your account, with its date and time
Role changedYour new system role
Permissions changedEach permission added to your account (plus sign) or removed from it (minus sign)
Projects changedEach project you were added to (plus sign) or removed from (minus sign)
Certificates changedEach certification added to your account (plus sign) or removed from it (minus sign)
Failed logins you do not recognize

If the Failed logins section lists attempts you did not make, someone may be trying to sign in as you. Tell your administrator, and keep your key file and password where only you can reach them.
