  2. Click the My Files section on the left panel.
  3. Select the file(s) you want to tag with a project.
  4. Click the Open full menu button in the top center panel.
  5. Select Change project.
  6. In the prompt, enter or select the project name to tag the file(s) with.
  7. Click Classify.
note

Only admins and super-admins can override file permissions to change projects.

caution

You cannot re-tag files from different projects simultaneously. Selecting items with different tags and choosing Change project shows "You cannot re-tag items with different projects simultaneously".

The prompt is titled "Change project tag for name" for one item, or "Change project tag for n items" for several. Choosing the project the items already have shows "No change made".

Change project is not offered in Trash or Shared With Me, or when a group's top folder is selected. The recursive checkbox appears only when the selection includes a folder. Files you upload into a folder take that folder's project tag.

Not Owning the File or Directory

Failed to update project tag for file-or-directory-name: Cannot classify a file you do not own.

Ask File or Directory Owner to Apply Project Tag

Do not copy the file to work around this. Downloading and re-uploading it under your own name creates a second copy of the data outside the classification the original carries, and breaks the audit trail that ties the file to its project.

To Admin
If the tag must be applied and the owner is unavailable, an admin or super-admin can override ownership. See Forcefully Override Rules to Retag Files with a Project.
