Rename

Rename a File
- Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
- Click the My Files section on the left panel.
- Select the file you want to rename.
- Click the Open full menu button in the top center panel.
- Select Rename.
- In the prompt, enter the new file name.
- Click Rename.
note
Files uploaded without a name keep the same name they have on the local machine.
Rename a Directory
- Go to the Vault icon in the top left panel.
- Click the My Files section on the left panel.
- Select the directory you want to rename.
- Click the Open full menu button in the top center panel.
- Select Rename.
- In the prompt, enter the new directory name.
- Click Rename.
You can also right-click a folder in the tree and select Rename.
How the Rename prompt works
The prompt is titled "Rename name" and has one field, New Name. It opens with the current name selected up to the file extension, so typing replaces the name and keeps the extension. Rename stays disabled until the name differs from the current one.
Rename is offered when one item is selected in My Files, in one of your folders, in a group's folder or in Downloads. It is not offered for items directly under Group Directories, Inboxes or Shared By Me, or in Shared With Me or Trash.
The New Name field follows these rules, and shows the quoted message when a rule is broken:
- Required: the name cannot be empty. Message: "You must enter a name".
- Length: the name has at most 80 characters. Message: "May not exceed 80 characters".
- Characters: the name cannot contain any of
/\|":*?<>{}or a NUL character. Message:May not contain any of /\|":*?<>{} or NUL. - Unique: no other item in the folder has the same name. Message: "Conflicts with another item".
