ISO Volumes

AdministratorRequires: Upload raw volumes (VM image files) permission

An ISO volume is an ISO file that sits in a storage pool of a Libvirt realm. The ISO Volumes table lists every ISO file found in the storage pools of every Libvirt realm, with its realm, pool, file name and size, and the ISO image registered on it, if any.

An ISO volume is not an ISO image. The volume is the file on disk; the ISO image is tiCrypt's record on top of it, with a name, a boot mode and an owner. Only ISO images can be attached to VMs or used to boot a service VM.

Why ISO volumes are listed separately

ISO files reach tiCrypt outside the web app: an administrator copies them into the ISO storage pool on the backend. tiCrypt does not register them automatically, because an ISO image carries decisions the file cannot: its name, whether VMs can boot from it, and whether only service VMs can. The ISO Volumes table shows which files have arrived and which of them are still waiting for those decisions. It is also the list that Create from volume on the ISO Images page picks from.

When to use ISO volumes

  • After copying an ISO file to the backend: check that the file appears here before you register it.
  • Before registering an ISO image: find the green rows, which are the files with no ISO image yet.
  • When an ISO image looks wrong: follow the ISO Image link from a row to see which image uses the file.

Before you begin

  • You are a Sub-admin, Admin or Super-admin with the Upload raw volumes (VM image files) permission.
  • The ISO file is already in a storage pool of a Libvirt realm. The web app has no upload here. See Upload ISOs to the Storage Pool.

View the ISO Volumes

  1. Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
  2. Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
  3. Click ISO Volumes in the left panel.
  4. View the ISO volumes in the table.
Result:

The table lists the ISO files of every Libvirt realm, sorted by realm, pool and volume. Rows with no ISO image yet are green. If no ISO file is present, the table shows "No ISO volumes are present in any libvirt storage pool."

The list refreshes on its own every ten minutes. Click Refresh in the top right panel to read it again after copying a file.

The following table describes the columns of the ISO Volumes table.

ColumnContent
RealmThe Libvirt realm of the storage pool.
PoolThe storage pool that holds the file.
VolumeThe file name.
ISO ImageThe ISO image registered on the file, with a link to its panel. Empty when no ISO image uses the file.
CapacityThe size of the file.
AllocatedThe space the file uses on disk.
