ISO Images

- VM Administration
- Create VM images from raw volumes (to create an ISO image from a volume)
An ISO image is tiCrypt's record of an ISO file in a Libvirt storage pool: a name, an optional description, a boot mode and an owner. ISO images are what VMs can mount, and what a service VM can boot from to install an operating system. The ISO file itself is an ISO volume.
The ISO Images table appears for every user who can open the Management console. ISO images cannot be edited or deleted from the web app: the only actions are Create from volume and Bulk email.
Access the ISO Images in Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the ISO Images in the left panel.
The table shows the Name, Realm, Owner, Source, Bootable, Service, Readers and Tokens of each ISO image.
View Basic Information of an ISO Image
Location: Management > Virtual Machines > ISO Images
- Select the ISO image to view basic information.
- Click the View button in the top right panel.
- Review the ISO Image panel.
The following table describes the content of the ISO Image panel.
| Section | Content |
|---|---|
| Description | The ISO image description, when it has one. |
| Basic info | Owner, Realm, Source, Bootable (Yes or No), Service only, Availability ("Available to anyone", shown when the ISO image has no access list), Created on, Last changed on and the ID. |
| Available to | The teams and users the ISO image is limited to, when it has an access list. |
| Attached to N VMs | The VMs the ISO image is attached to. |
| N tokens | The tokens issued for the ISO image. |
Create an ISO Image from a Volume
Creating an ISO image registers an ISO file that is already in a Libvirt storage pool. The web app does not upload ISO files: copy the file to the ISO storage pool on the backend first, then check that it appears in ISO Volumes.
Location: Management > Virtual Machines > ISO Images
- Click the Create from volume button in the top right panel.
- In the Create ISO from volume pop-up, select the Realm, or leave it empty to take the realm of the volume you pick.
- In ISO volume, select the file from the suggestions. A Selected volume card shows its realm, pool and volume.
- Under Parameters, check the Name, which is filled in from the file name without
.iso, and select the Boot mode. - Optionally, enter a Description.
- Click Create ISO.
The message ISO image "<name>" created appears and the ISO image is added to the table.
The following table describes the fields of the Create ISO from volume pop-up.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Realm | Required. Only Libvirt realms are shown. If you pick a volume while this field is empty, it takes the volume's realm. |
| ISO volume | Required. The ISO files listed in ISO Volumes. The hint reads "Choose an existing ISO volume from a libvirt storage pool." |
| Name | Required, up to 80 characters, without any of / \ | " : * ? < > { }. It must differ from the name of every other ISO image. |
| Boot mode | Required, with no default. Bootable: VMs can boot from the ISO. Service VMs only: only service VMs can boot from it. Not bootable: no VM can boot from it. |
| Description | Optional, up to 250 characters, without <, >, { or }. |
If the volume belongs to a different realm than the one selected, the message "The selected ISO volume does not belong to the selected realm" appears and nothing is created. The pop-up has no team or user list, so a new ISO image has no access list and shows "Available to anyone".
