Step 5: Working with the Vault

Last updated: June 22, 2026Latest Frontend Version: 2.17.3

The Vault stores all encrypted files in tiCrypt. Every file is encrypted with AES-256 and accessible only to members of the project it belongs to.

Key Concepts

Before you begin, here are two concepts you will encounter:

  • Projects restrict who can access tagged resources. If your administrator has organized files into projects, you select a project to view its contents. Only active project members can see project-tagged files.
  • Groups let you share files with multiple users at once. Instead of sharing individually, you share with a group and all members receive access.

Open the Vault

  1. Click Vault in the top toolbar.
  2. Select My files in the left panel, then choose a project.
  3. The file browser for that project loads in the center.

Create a Directory

  1. In the Vault, click New Directory in the toolbar.
  2. Enter a name and click Create directory.
info

For all file and directory operations, see Files in the User Guide.

Upload Files

Upload files using the Upload button, or drag and drop files directly into the Vault browser. You can upload entire directories with their structure preserved.

Download Files

Select a file or directory and click Download. You can select multiple items for bulk download.

caution

Downloaded files are decrypted and saved to your local machine. You are responsible for securing them outside of tiCrypt.

View Files

Double-click a file or select it and click View to open the built-in viewer. The viewer supports common file formats, PDF viewing with search and zoom, and ZIP browsing without extracting.

Share Files

Select a file and click Manage Share to share with specific users. You can set restrictions (cannot view, cannot download, cannot edit) and expiration dates. You can also drag files onto a group in the left panel to share with an entire group.

info

For advanced sharing options, see File Sharing in the User Guide.

File History

Select a file and click History to view the log of uploads, downloads, shares, and other actions.

Groups

Groups let you share files with multiple users at once. Navigate to the Groups section in the left panel to create and manage groups.

info

For group management, see Groups in the User Guide.

Disk Usage

Select a file or directory and click Compute Disk Usage to view the storage breakdown.

Next Steps

Continue to Step 6: Working with Virtual Machines to create, start, and connect to a secure compute environment.
