Teams
What are the Teams?
Teams serve as a management tool for administrators to group users together based on quota maintenance.
When you place a user in a team, they are granted a certain amount of space that must be shared amongst all team members.
- Teams are completely independent from groups and projects.
- Teams restrict the amount of data usage allocated to a user.
What are the Team Quotas?
Team Quotas control the maximum space and resource allocation for each team. Deleting team quotas allows the team to use unlimited resources.
How do I View my Teams' Resource Usage?
Follow the instructions in View the Teams' Quotas.
How do I Increase my Team's VM CPU & RAM Usage?
Follow the instructions in Edit Teams' Quotas.
What is the Purpose of Team's Resource Utilization?
Restrictions + Resource Limits = Team Quotas
Team quotas serve two key purposes in the system.
- Prevent users from overusing CPU, RAM, and drive space.
- Reduce the user costs for the disk space (via metering).
Metering enables research groups to pay their organization based on precise resource usage. This may vary depending on the institution's policy.
- The system is shut by default on utilization.
- Sharing a team's drive must be done in read-only state to function correctly.
- A team without quotas has limitless resources, which may lead to poor practices.
If a team exceeds the resource utilization limit set by their admin, their VMs may crash.
What is the Difference between Teams and Groups?
Teams are access-controlled while Groups are cryptographic.
Users can create isolated groups with other users from their teams.
A team is publicly visible and managed by an admin for system purposes, while a group is private to users and cannot be controlled by an admin.
How Can I View my Current Teammates?
Follow the instruction in View Other Users and Team Members in the Vault.
Admins can view all teammates in the system.
What is the Risk Assessment ID?
When you create a new team, an optional risk assessment ID is shown in the pop-up. This ID enables secure collaboration with external partners in tiCrypt.
